I read in early '86 that Verbatim had a prototype 3.5" erasable optical drive that held 40M, and they expected it to be up to 100M by its planned late '87 release. The drive was supposed to cost $600-$1000 and disks $30 (I think I read this in EE Times). But then 9 months later I read that the release had slid to early '88. I've heard the erasable optical drives are slow but don't have any numbers. Anyone know what the ballpark average access times are?
