I currently have a diskII daisy chained to 2 3's on my GS. I ran into a similar
sounding problem and diskovered that a chip in my DISK II had gone when a 
friend repaired it.  If you take it to a service man or Know a little more than
me you can say that it is the same chip that goes when a disk is connected with
power on the computer
