I just read the news about Turner quitting, bad news. As some other Atarian on the BITNET or the ARPANET, I wonder where are available all the stuff that has been published in the sources or binary ST news on the UUCP network, we receive only the wonderful digests made by Bill. (Again thank you for the job, I prefer, by far, a moderated bboard.) Can we get hold of ash ? GULAM ? (I am in a desesperate need for a good shell, I have tried MT-Csh (Cost me some, but I still dont use it), Pcommand A bit like the MSdos stuff, but still not good enough... Do I have to write mine ? About floppy life: lately we had a very bad Brand New Box of Verbatim Datalife DS-DD, making noise in the machine, and not being to record programs without errors, I have never seen before something as bad. The box is going back to the retailer. I use Sony DS-DD only, 'dont have time to waste on loosing files. (Sony DS-DD are 250FF a box of 10, here. ($43 !!!)) I am seeking someone who has the 1st hand actual experience of expanding the memory of a 1040STf. (2 megs or 4 megs). (A lot of talk, advertisement, but I would like to talk to a real case...) I will publish a new, somewhat enhanced version of the magic couple: uudecode.c & uuencode.c. It will be compatible with the UN*X version, both ways, add all the transmission correction my previous release had, the nice ideas that someone send me about decoding multiple files that are concatenated rather than separate, and my latest idea: When I get Uniterm, in 5 files, I experiment very often trouble after editing them, because I have sloppy fingers, and duplicate lines, or delete some, even duplicate whole files while making the big one before uudecoding. So I need a way to check if I did something wrong. (To re-kermit files take me hours and money...) There *is* a scheme that will check that for you, without adding a single char to the uuencoded file. An even better check can be done with 4 or 5 more bytes per file. May be somebody already has done it... But I dont have it... so I will post it... (OK it will be #ifdef'ed for UN*X and other system...) A question: Is there in MWC 2.0 a *real* signal() ? isatty() ? I need them. The Paris area is pretty cold for a month of May, 3C at night, 15C at the warmest of the afternoon. Jean-Pierre H.
