It's also multi-tasking and modular. There is a good selection of development tools, as well as application software. The other major real time system is VRTX which as far as I can tell doesn't have the array of development tools that OS-9 has, mainly because it seems to be limited to controller applications whereas OS-9 spans controller and business applications. OS-9 can be used as a full multi-user system or on the otherhand, it can be used to control a production line.
