I once had engineering responsibility for a floppy-disk duplication operation in a captive house (medium volume (would have been small, except for all of the new releases and sizeable finished-goods inventory :-))). All of those little diskettes look an awful lot alike, you know. If you stick a label on them BEFORE you duplicate, you run the risk of shipping BAD media (they don't all work perfectly, you know, even with media certifiers). There are so many opportunities for something to go wrong with duplication that I find it amazing that the duplicators do it as well as they do!
