Lines: 29 >Is it ok to convert over from 3.2/5.3 to 4.1/5.5? I have noticed a problem in the desktop in the new system, where the documents for an application get disconnected from the application itself. For instance, double clicking a MacWrite document (as opposed to MacWrite itself) doesn't start MacWrite with that document, it simply says that an application can't be found for that document. The fix is to rebuild the desktop (hold down command and option while the finder starts up), but that process loses all comments in the info windows. Also, if one person on a net upgrades his (or her) printer drivers, all should at the same time, especially the LaserWriter 4.0 and Laser Prep 4.0 files. If there is a mixed system, the LW will reinitialize itself when printing for different users, as the wrong prep file is downloaded. (This is not a problem, it is a warning to practice rigor.) Finally, an editorial opinion. THIS SYSTEM CANNOT RUN ON SINGLE-SIDED FLOPPIES! Well, that's my conclusion anyway. I built a minimal system (minimum fonts, few DAs, ImageWriter driver only) and it took up nearly 400K! I conclude that to run on a single-sided system requires an external drive. This seems to be one more argument to upgrade your 512K to 512Kenhanced before it's too late! Clearly, Apple has the "larger" user in mind. This orientation away from "the rest of us" may be a result of the Mac's belated acceptance in the office, where more and more power is the key to sales. -- -Brian Diehm (SDA - Standard Disclaimers Apply) Tektronix, Inc. briand@tekig4.TEK.COM or {decvax,cae780,uw-beaver}!tektronix!tekig4!briand
