Although one CAN (and should when possible) use AT&T (formerly Teletype) model 5620 or 630 Dot-Mapped Display terminals with special host support software, they work just fine as dumb X3.64 CRTs also. If you know for a fact that you can never use them in their "layers" mode of operation, then they're probably not quite what you want for dumb large-screen operation, but if you expect to be able to use them part of the time in layers mode they're probably your best choice. I use mine in ordinary CRT mode quite often, even though I have layers available (layers mode has lower effective throughput for simple text display).
