It won't work, so I asked my su why, he played with it an hour or so then asked this group. We got two replys (many thanks) that awk has a known bug. One of these respondents (jwp%chem@sdcsvax.ucsd.edu) sent a great piece of literature: "A Supplemental Document For Awk" or "Things Al, Pete, And Brian Didn't Mention Much" I'd now like to find/receive/obtain any other `Supplemantal Documents` for other common UNIX commands and utilities, which detail any bugs, features and/or otherwise undocumented parts/options.
