It is not even clear to me that programs like rn obey the protocal except to make a default header. Unless the header is checked after the article is written, the protocal can easily be ignored which is indead the basis of my complaint. I do not know what rn does with the `k' key. If it looks for the same subject or if it looks at the references line or both. In any case, I frequently come across multiple threads of the same discussion in the same news group. It seems to me that inews should enforce the protocal and reject any headers which do not conform. It could do this by checking the subject, references, and followup lines and making sure that they make sense. Also, it seems to me that an original article should contain no included text so that restriction could be made as well. However, I was only trying to encourage people not to changed the header lines unless they really know what they are doing. I prefer to keep the net as unrestricted as possible and have everyone conform willingly to a standard. I believe that most of the problems come from people that simply do not know the pain they are causing. -- Cute signature line employing many literary allusions and puns.
