I'm not sure if this is the case at all of the machines in town, as this is an old model which I seldom use, but if you leave your card in the slot after your transaction is completed, the machine will wait some small, reasonable number of seconds, and promptly swallow your card. People come around daily to retrieve confiscated (for various reasons) cards, and return them to your bank. I had my card back within a week. Also, the newest machines around here have an annoying, loud, intermittent beep whenever the machine expects you to do anything, including take your card. It's nearly impossible to leave your card there accidently, though the noise is annoying. Just adding to the current discussion, though there's not much relevence to the newsgroup.
