IN COGNITIVE SCIENCE, THE UNIVERSITY OF MANCHESTER Applications are invited for a one year MSc course in Cognitive Science, run jointly by the Departments of Psychology, Computer Science, General Linguistics, Medical Biophysics and Philosophy. The course stresses knowledge representation and use, language and communication and vision as viewed from the contributing disciplines. Students will be expected to develop a working knowledge of artificial intelligence techniques and symbolic programming. The course introduces problems in human computer interaction at pragmatic, cognitive and technical levels. Students will have access to new laboratories in cognitive science and human computer interaction based on Sun workstations with a range of artificial intelligence software. Applicants should have good degrees in Psychology, Computer Science, Language and Linguistics, Philosophy, Physical Science, Mathematics or related disciplines.
