Summary: Rmail on v18.45 doesn't get my new mail

I'm trying to install a new version of gnu (18.45) on a Celerity system.  I've
built a slightly customized one and everything seems fine except that the
RMail command always says I have no new mail, even when I do.  I tried the
set-rmail-inbox-list command to assure it was looking in our incoming mail
area (the default), but it still doesn't work.  Any clues?
The last version installed (18.30, built by someone else) does RMail correctly.
