The louie version is in fact shorter than the prep version. They were built independently, but that should still yield the same file size. I am not sure why this is. I just tried copying the file to another machine, uncompressing it, and running tar on it, and it all worked, with the last file in the distribution being dist-18.45/kept_editor.com (1875 bytes). Make sure when you ftp a compressed file, or a tar file, that you set the type of transfer to image. The BSD client will not do this for you. The command: type image will do the trick. I only burden the list with this comment because this little feature has made several people need to copy the whole file twice. What bandwidth we waste on this note, we gain in eliminated faulty transfers. The source for compress is stored on louie right along with the edist.tar file. It is in tar format, but is not compressed. anonymous ftp, any password. let me know about problems: Gary Delp
