Some suggestions I've already received: Oak Creek >Canyon on Alt. 89 south of Flagstaff; Dook' o' oslid, aka the San >Francisco Peaks, just north and west of Flagstaff; and the venerable >Meteor Crater, off of I-40 in the direction of Winslow. The Peaks >sound cooler than the others... Opinions? Of the choices mentioned, I would definitely choose Oak Creek Canyon. It's a _beautiful_ drive (as long as it's not raining; 89A can be a real _bitch_ in the middle of a thunderstorm). I'd suggest taking swimming gear and such, plus some old denims or cutoffs for use at Slide Rock. Sedona (sort of at the tail end of the canyon) is a nice little town, although a bit too much of a tourist trap for my taste. It makes a great place to stop for lunch. -Brent -- Brent Chapman chapman@mica.berkeley.edu or ucbvax!mica!chapman
