I'm using GMAIL. The From: address is: wanginst!ross%ulowell.cs.ulowell.edu@husc6.BITNET The original address won't parse, and no variant that I can think of works. His mail to me was apparently routed through some uucp systems, and took a very rocky path to Grinnell, because addresses of the form aaaaa!bbbbb!ccccc!ddddd!eeeee!MCGUIRE@GRIN2.BITNET sometimes get short-circuited by intermediate sites. Suppose `ccccc' knows about BITNET. Instead of following the given route, it uses its own BITNET gateway and the mail gets delivered to user `ddddd!eeeee!MCGUIRE' at node GRIN2. This user, of course, does not exist. Ed
