Whether or not DEC has reason to be concerned that their patch went out I think there is also another side to this issue which might calm the waters... Consider that between the ARPAnet and USENET distribution some (just guessing, but probably in the right range) several hundreds of dollars was just spent sending that patch out to thousands and thousands of sites at essentially zero cost to DEC. Add to that all the FedEx tapes and frantic phone calls and employees' time that was saved and I think you can see what I am getting at, it's a two way street. My opinion? Good, that's what networks are for, and DEC has always been supportive of these networks in one way or another (strangely, least from the VMS crew, no USENET, no UUCP, no ARPAnet, c'est la vie.) It was probably one of the better uses of the bandwidth this week. -Barry Shein, Boston University
