Soon we will expand our vax11/750 runnung VMS 4.5 to a TCP/IP lan including some SUNs and a vax8250 running UNIX. So we have the problem to integrate the VMS machine into the net. Up to now I know 2 posibilities to do this : 1. pure software Buying the Wollongong or Tektronixs packages 2. software + hardware Buying an intelligent controller, whitch handles the lower protocols plus some software for the higher protokols. Solution 1 seems to be cheaper ( about 3500 $ resp. free from Tek I heard ? ) but since our vax 750 has nearly no processor time left for this solution, 2 might be better, but more expensive ( about 4000 $ for the board + 6000 $ for the software ). So before we make any decitions, we would like to hear about experiences or suggestion from other users. -Is the software solution really _such_ a cpu eater and what do you get, if you buy a board ? -Are there boards with all software on it, so you don't need any on the host ? Any comments are welcome Thanks in advance Hans-Juergen Rosenberger OPER@DHAFEU11.bitnet
