 Its been along time since i used a TTY43. There was several reasons the 
alarm light would be on. But the one that was the most frequent was:

    - There is a switch under the cover which detects if the top is open.
      Most of the problem i had was with that  switch. All is did was
      to put some tape over it.
   
If there is a problem with the status on the RS232 interface the terminal
will stay in local mode and not go online.
