The target dates are 15 and 16 October, 1987, in Berkeley, CA. The first day will consist of presentations of brief position papers describing experiences, dilemmas, and solutions. On the second day we plan to form smaller focus groups to brainstrom additional solutions, dig deeper into specific areas, and attempt to forge common approaches to some of the dilemmas. Suggestions for topic areas for position papers include: C Language Issues Internationalization Networked/Distributed Implementations Pipes and FIFOs Timer Resolution and Ranges Signals Job Control, Process Groups Limits: Documentation and Inquiry Conformance Verification (IEEE 1003.3) Security Concerns Implications for Commands (IEEE 1003.2) What to do about errno? Implications for User Interfaces Terminal Interface Position papers are needed by 15 August 1987. Detailed instructions will be published in a future issue of ;login:, the USENIX Association Newsletter (and in other appropriate places, such as comp.std.unix) along with final information on time and place.
