I did not mean to plagiarize the previous author. The note got away from me. What follows fits in this discussion somewhere... I recently bought MKS 2.1, partly because their sales people had said it was faster than PC/VI because it wrote directly to video memory. (I believe the most recent PC/VI does now also). I was just a bit upset to find that the vi was unbearably slow on screen updates. It turned out that the way they were updating the screen was not the best method for EGA color, and caused scrolling the screen to be painfully slow. This only shows up when using an EGA with a color monitor. In all other modes, it supposedly is lightening fast. They have since made a patch for this problem and I assume it is included in the recently announce release. I have had no problems or complaints with my copy of this new version. -dave gerdes -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UUCP: {ihnp4,pur-ee,convex}!uiucdcs!uiucuxc!osiris!casper INTERNET: casper@osiris.cso.uiuc.edu CSNET: casper%osiris@uiuc.csnet MILNET: casper@osiris.arpa BITNET: casper@osiris --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
