I believe the rationale behind the Chooser no longer showing the printer chosen is that the Chooser is used for a variaty of operations now. Like choosing a Mail Server (via Intermail), or a File Server (a la Appleshare). As well as choosing a printer (Imagewriter, Laserwriter, Preview (the little neat shareware driver which is GREAT!!!!!), and others) So, I guess the powers that be in human interface decided that this would be more intuitive..... Not great for the power user, but intuitive.
