If one side passes and the other fails that will be put into a ss box. But when verifying ss only one side is verivied if it fails than the other side is tested and if it passes it is packed as ss. so you can get a ss disk that is just like a dd except that one side did not verify or that it was not verified. It is also my understanding that verification is much less tolerant than the drives that use the disks. I have been using ss disk as ds ever since the 800k drives came out and have had very few that would not format and none that lost data. floppies are perhaps the most durable items in the entire system after the power cords.
