We use system monitoring tools to track cpu busy, disk io, and memory. We have man pages on these commands but they don't answer questions like the following: I would like to know if there is any source of information that will give a rules of thumb guide to maximum values of mon fields. Some mon fields are: Time: user nice sys idle 100 The maximum value of cpu idle is 100% - no activity on the system. Does load average have a threshhold value? Would a value of 8 be too HIGH ?
