How's this suggestion for uwm:  When it comes up, it creates a small
window that says:

    | Click here   |
    | for a menu,  |
    | or hold down |
    | Left and     |
    | click left   |
    | in any window|
    #--------------#

The expert will ignore it or close it, and the novice will learn something.
