The aim of the workshop is to: * review ways in which a CAL Authoring system can be used to generate tutorial material. Examples will be given of programs produced by the CAL Unit. * introduce the basic features of authoring languages, showing how lessons can be created, how to use graphics and write questions. * discuss ways of becoming an "efficient" CAL lesson author. This will include overall lesson design, how to structure a lesson for CAL and the general flow of a lesson. * look at screen design and layout, how to use overlays, and the roles of graphics and animation. * describe the concept of an author's personal toolkit. The workshop is introductory and will involve the participants in using the PAL Authoring Language.
