I looked at a lot of surge protectors, UPS units, and line
conditioners before I decided on a Gravis AC Line Filter. These units
basically offer all the protection (surge, brownouts, spikes, etc)
that I needed for my unix box. They don't offer battery backup
protection, but for $240 I didn't expect them to. I will let everyone
know how well they do after we get some good lightning hits around
here this summer...course if it doesn't work, I probably won't be able
to let you know :-) . BTW...the GRAVIS unit is rated at around 1800
watts...
