Summary: is alt.gourmand moderated or not?

In article <2641@hoptoad.uucp> gnu@hoptoad.uucp (John Gilmore) sent
out a checkgroups message, and I got mail ("problems with your active
file") telling me that alt.gourmand is not moderated.  But I
distinctly remember getting a "newgroup alt.gourmand moderated",
which amused me because I know that John isn't a big fan of moderated
groups.  So what's the story?
