When our group was procuring computers performance was measured in execution time for C code since we do all our work in C. Who cares how fast it could do Fortran, we weren't about to go and rewrite our applications in Fortran. This caused several manufactures with probably competitive machines but with lousy C compilers to be passed over (notably ELXSI at the time). -Ron
