Reading about catalogs (or data dictionaries) of DBMS's, I
often encounter the following phrases:

- a passive catalog
- an integrated catalog
- a dynamic catalog
- an active catalog

Since these terms are not very consistently used, it is not
clear to me in which aspects they differ (especially in the
last two cases).

Can anyone tell me what these terms REALLY mean?
