Since it explicitly got chmoded to executable status, the shell thought that it must be a shell file. Possibly the unexec didn't work. Did you remove any xemacs turd left by your previous attempt that failed? Did you clean out the directory of all binary files from other machine architectures that may have been present in your distribution. -Ron
