I agree that it was probably the disk validator at work. As a follow-up: the validation occurred again a couple of times the next morning. I called Supra, and they suggested that I reformat the disk. It took several hours to back everything up, reformat, and restore the contents of the disk. Make that many hours (like 6 or 7). It seemed to have fixed the problem, but over the course of the past few weeks it's gone through the validation dance a couple of times, fortunately, with much less stress on my part. I'm beginning to think it has more to do with my disk being near full rather than anything I might have done to the disk, since I believe it's occurred only when the disk was over 95% full. That's not a very scientific observation, however. I may decide to have this unit swapped out for a new one, if the problem persists. If so, I'll post the results.
