After a few seconds, a taped message from the operator states that the call did not go through and that I should try again. If I use a modem which has a jack for the telephone line as well as for the telephone, then the only way I can establish connection is by ALT-D and atd followed by the manual dialing of the number using the telephone - while the phone rings, I press RETURN on my keyboard and once I hear the carrier from the number I dialed manually, I put the receiver down and I am able to hear the carrier through the micro's speaker and able to connect fine. I tried playing around with XTALK and the software ALWAYS thinks that I am on line (which happens once I turn the modem on). However, as I am particularly interested in sticking with PROCOMM, suggestions for PROCOMM would be preferred. I would appreciate suggestions/responses directly through e-mail. Many thanks in advance!! -- {allegra,ihnp4,linus,decvax}!utzoo!utstat!anthony {ihnp4|decvax|utzoo|utcsrgv}!utgpu!utzoo!utstat!anthony
