Aren't we forever greatful >to BIG BLUE. IBM selected the 8088, in part, because Intel could manufacture sufficient quantities of the part to meet IBM's requirement. It's possible that they moved away from the 8086 and 68000 to avoid impacting other areas of their product line. Several YEARS after the introduction of the PC, Intel was short of cash because of the general malaise in the semiconductor market, and IBM bought a substantial amount of Intel stock to keep Intel going and maintain their supply of parts. IBM has since sold off most of this stock. IBM has always metered out technology, incorporating just enough in their product line to maintain their market position. Intel seems to do better at MARKETING microcomputer product than Motorola, an area in which IBM also dominates its markets. That said, its ok to bash IBM all you want because they really don't care what you think but you really ought to try to keep your facts straight. -- Greg Laskin "When everybody's talking and nobody's listening, how can we decide?"
