Accordingly, opening a folder would close the current folder and open the new one. This might be accomplished by -double click, for example. Going up one directory would be similar, -click in the close box would close the current folder and open the parent folder. Alternatively, being able to select the whole pathname would be nice. To do this, the Finder could use a popup menu, just as standard file does. You would -click on the close box (actually a new icon in the title bar would be better) and get a menu with the current path. Selecting an item would open that folder and close the current. You could even get fancy and put siblings in a sub-menu (although I admit that this could be pretty hokey).
