Looking at my thesis, it happens that the number is about 0.75~in in from the right edge of the paper, and is about (what do you know) 0.75~in from the top; the right hand margin of my text is 1.25~in from the right edge. If you are interested, I can e-mail you, Greg, my macro file. I don't think one needs a DVI driver to be capable of doing -ve skips, I did the above using the IMPRINT DVI driver for an IMAGEN laser printer; the same also works under Micro-TeX using the EPSON DVI driver from Addison-Wesley. ...
