Actually, AT&T rewrote the "sort" manual entry for SVR2. Unfortunately, in the process of clarifying things, they broke some of the specs. The SVR3 manual corrected this. It now seems no worse than most manual entries; i.e. the specification is unambiguous (but is not a tutorial).
