Lines: 15 Keywords: heritibility, behavior, environment "What makes family members alike? Genetic similarity seems to be a far better predictor than environmental factors, according to adoption studies and research on twins." That's the heading on a Research News article in the 7 Aug. 1987 issue of SCIENCE (pages 598-601.) A survey is presented of recent evidence which indicates that there is a substantial amount of genetic control of personality traits (in humans.) An appropriate Chas. Addams cartoon is included. This article is reasonably easy reading - although non-specialists may have to skip relatively small portions. (This type of research could easily re-open the major controversies which centered on the inheritance of IQ.) --henry schaffer n c state univ
