I think what John meant was that hams work to keep other users out, other than hams, to leave more space for the ham bands. Given the ham reaction to citizens band, cellular phones, etc, he is not *completely* without reason. I would really like to see the code requirement dropped from the technicians license. Judging from the hams I know most haven't used CW in years, and even the DX types tend to go sideband rather than CW.
