On some terminals (like, fer instance, the Datamedia DT80/1 I use during the day) you hold the control key down and hit / (which is the same key ? is on). I think C-? is a fine mnemonic for a help key. (I like to use both C-H and the backspace key for erasing; sometimes one is easier to hit than the other and I make lots of typos.)
