Help!

I am writing my first pascal application on our 8800. Our pascal manuals
were stolen, and I need to reference them.
     What I need is simply the ability to open, access, and close various
files, file names given by prompting the user. What type variable should
a file name be in? I know vms pascal has an open statement. What is the
syntax? Meanwhile, back at the ranch, we are ordering new manuals. -bp
