The whole point of ROFS is so that you can mount a diskpack with the WRITE PROTECT on. That means the hardware prohibits write operations. Even updating last access times. Mount(8) makes reference to this in its man page, explaining that the reason for read only mounts is to prevent access time updating. Michael I.
