I was wrong, and you were right regarding the syntax of the USER and PASS command arguments. Your syntax does make more sense than using a SITE command, but you may find some user FTPs that are unable to support it. That's life in the big (Internet) city. I would propose that ALL MVS software use a consistent access methodology as hammered out through appropriate facilities, in the spirit of interoperability. Perhaps an RFC is called for.
