Andy,

Tony Lauck, DEC's chief protocol architect, or John Zornig, also at DEC,
could probably point you at anything not proprietary. I believe that
they've entered recommendations into the ISO forum in this area so the
concepts are probably quite open. I don't have John's or Tony's network
mailbox IDs readily handy (oh, for a good white pages!), but perhaps
someone on TCP-IP can help, or Tony or John may be reading these
messages.
