Network management (of which monitoring is only a part) is even bigger. If you are interested in these problems, I suggest you join the GWMON mailing list where most discussion of network management on IP networks is held. (Regarding the name, it started as GateWay MONitoring, and grew up). Send requests to gwmon-request@sh.cs.net.
