Len: You will find Sandy's XBBS running under uPORT Sys V/286, as well as on AT&T 3B equipment running Sys V Rel 3.X, in addition to Xenix. Sandy is willing to work with those who wish to port it to other machines too. You do your fellows a disservice to even compare Unaxcess to XBBS. XBBS not only supports up to 99 message bases which are scanned for new mail at log-on, but a multitude of other BBS features. For instance, protocol file transfers employing Xmodem (crc and checksum), Ymodem, Kermit (both normal & sliding windows), Sealink, Etc, are supported. There are bulletins, chatting, access to Unix, Zip-Mail, a Questionnaire, a command that displays all new files since last log-on, and another that displays the contents of tar and arc archives. One of the best features is the ability to "splice" shell scripts or programs that you have written into the BBS. This allows you a virtually open ended BBS that can be customized for nearly any specific task that can be performed under Un*x. XBBS fully supports multiuser access, and provides up to 32768 access levels. This means that the administrator has full control over which commands each user can use, as well as which file directories he can access. In short, there is no better BBS software currently available for Un*x. The only thing that Unaxcess has in common with XBBS is that it has been placed in the public domain, and is free for the downloading. I must admit that I have been fortunate enough to have been personally acquainted with Sandy for several years, but despite that fact, I believe that any impartial observer would have to agree with my statements above.
