Farber Since archives are made with so many different commands and are structured so differently, it's nearly impossible to write a un-archiver that does not act exactly as the shell the archive was intended for. I have the MKS tools which include a Korn shell for the PC. Korn shell, for the most part, is a superset of Bourne shell, the shell the archives are intended for. I have used the shell to un-archive files on my PC. You can get the MKS tools for about $140 US. It's a bit steep for your purpose alone but you may like the other things the toolkit can do.
