I thought I had found the package when Byte by Byte redesigned the PAL Jr. box into something a little more esthetically pleasing (they already had an excellent hardware design). Now I find out from a number of sources, including Byte by Byte, that the PAL Jr. has been discontinued (after only four or five months in the new form factor!) and that they are getting out of hardware altogether! The person I talked to at Byte by Byte stated that they were having problems getting the DMA chips from Commodore and that they couldn't sustain a high enough margin on their hardware products. She then told me that all PAL Jr. boxes off the production line were "spoken for". Seems strange to me discontinue a product that must have sold fairly well. I certainly hope this isn't the start of a trend for third party companies producing expansion products for the A1000. So now I start the quest all over again. Anyone hooked up the StarBoard2 (with the multi-function card in it) and a hard disk (C Ltd, Supra, others) to an A1000? What's new on the horizon besides the 2000 and 1 from ASDG (Perry, any new information about when and what?) that might allow cost effective expansion of my system? Yes, I am considering the as yet unofficial trade-in up to an A2000, but as a last resort. Any and all e-mail would be appreciated. -- Jerry Vanden Heuvel Voice: (206) 237-5080 Boeing Commercial Airplane Co. UUCP: ..!uw-beaver!ssc-vax!shuksan!tahoma!grv P.O.
