Here's a summary: (this one's only sorta related) > What happened to the free modification for Commodore color monitors >so they can use it for thier Amiga 500 upgrade? >A friend contacted all the Authorized Commodore Service >centers in our area and none of them say they do it. Is it the wrong >model (1902A)? The answer to the last question is "yes" it's the wrong model. Only the 1902 could be upgraded. Additionally, no-one (certainly not me) said it would be free. I said service centers could do it. > So as long as he's stuck with it as is, what's the best way to >connect it to Amiga 500 as is? My understanding is that it doesn't have >analog RGB. Correct, so he'll have to connect monochrome composite to the monitor or get the A520 color composite adaptor when it becomes available (one or two months). >We have been informed by local dealer that the A1000 must >be accoompanied by the 256k Ram, and the ORIGINAL manuals >and gifts. That's the dealer's choice. Original manuals is something we stipulate. "Gifts?" I don't know what you mean. >What about expansion RAM? I've got a Microbotics StarBoard, 2meg, with >a brand new multifunction board in it. It obviously won't work in the 2000. >Do you think the dealer would give me a trade on it? >Is there some sort of official policy here or is it up to the individual >dealers? I'm interested in upgrading but I don't want to throw away my >~$700 investment in my memory! Commodore's policy applies only to the A1000 computer. You'll either have to sell the memory card privately, or work out a deal with the dealer, or of course, keep it. >Also, on another topic... is there any way to put Kickstart BACK into an >A2000? Two reasons... first, I have a bunch of old brain-dead EA games that I >still use occaisionally, that only work with 1.1. I doubt if EA is going to >send out updates (they haven't yet). (I also have problems with other >publishers, but not as much as EA). Secondly, I just last night installed >NoKLICKstart and it's GREAT. After one night I probably couldn't go back to >those d*mn clicking drives again. Not to the best of my knowledge. This is because Kickstart 1.2 is now in ROM, and there's no WCS on an A2000. I'm sure someone will figure out a way though, with some tower, replacing the ROMs. Also, you may be able to get your games upgraded to 1.2 versions. As for clicking drives... I've noticed the internal drives on the A2000 are almost silent. You'd have to stick your ear right beside the drive to hear the clicking. Granted, an A1010 is still the same. I'm sure someone will figure out how to patch in something like NoKLICKstart after power-up (i.e., not in Kickstart). >Hi. What is the policy in Canada ? (A1000 + $???? = A2000) ? You'll have to call Commodore Canada. This is a national policy, not corporate wide. Paul.
