Unfortunately, our harddisk.device person made the same mistake, and we've got one monolithic device as well. If/when it gets rewritten we plan to do something more like you're planning. I think that's the right way to go also. (The only thing SCSI specific our driver does it it supports sending a SCSI command...ie you can send an arbitrary SCSI command block; it was a last minute thing, and is horrible, and all that, but at least means that you *can* use a SCSI tape backup device. >Louis A.
