While on this subject, has anyone actually TRIED hooking up the mono
monitor and running it off the RGB outputs and sync?  I am very
tempted to try this.

Yes, I know, "May damage your monitor!", "Can't possibly work -
the scan frequency is wrong!", etc., etc.  But has any foolish
soul ACTUALLY TRIED IT?  It does seem to me that there is a faint
glimmer of possibility that it would work.
